Animal Lovers United, once known as Spirit Animal Advocacy, was named in honor of Spirit (see photo at right), a pup who suffered greatly at the Wythe County Dog Shelter. She had a broken bone protruding through a wound on her leg with no veterinary care. She was left alone with other dogs for 12 hours, no food or water, during a power outage.
Luckily, she was rescued by wonderful animal advocates and ended up in a loving forever home! After a long battle with Wythe County officials concerning the horrible and unethical treatment of our shelter pets, many positive changes have been made for the good of our local animals.
