The Story Of Buddy: Our First Rescue

Posted by Laurie on January 20, 2014 at 1:00 AM

The first animal to be rescued via SAA, Buddy, was found on a dirt road and picked up by a animal lover. He was brought to us and we discovered a grizzly collar wound around his neck as well as he was severely underweight. Thanks to wonderful contributors, we were able to raise the money needed to cover all of his medical care!

Continued donations provided his food and toys for the upcoming months he was fostered. Eventually, his wounds healed, he gained 20+lbs, and a loving family took him home! Please see his photos below!

This was Buddy the night he was brought to us. You can see the horrible gash on his neck from an imbedded collar that had been ripped out somehow. It was infected and smelled horrible. The photo on the left is a close up photo of his wound, you can see how deep it was.

On the left you see Buddy the night he came to us, emaciated and starving. At the right, 2 months later, he's very healthy!

This was Buddy after he got to come back to us after being at the vets for a couple days. They cleaned up the wound, gave him fluids and a good checkup!

He got to make some good friends during his months with us!

And of course, good treats!

He sure didn't waste any time being bored! He was always ready to play!

We had to wrap the leash around his shoulders as he couldn't wear a collar. Which made it VERY difficult when he went to get neutered :)  He really wanted to play with the strange dogs!

About two months later, Buddy was all better!

As every rescuer knows, the best part of rescue is also the most difficult, letting them go. We got lucky finding Buddy a home though! Our neighbors son and his family adopted him so he is still "close" to us. He continues to do well to this day :)

My favorite memory with Buddy is one night during a thunderstorm, I went out to check on him in his dog house. He was shaking horribly, obviously terrified of the noise. I crawled into his house and held him and petted him until it was all over. I got soaking wet in the process, but he appreciated it, so it was worth it:)
